Mark has been the pastor of Sunrise since 2009. Originally from Iowa, Mark pastored in New York and Michigan before making his way to Texas. He's a graduate of Dordt College and Calvin Seminary. In addition to pastoring Sunrise, Mark leads the Lone Star Church Planting Cluster, Classis Rocky Mountain and the Young Adult Leadership Taskforce (YALT). Mark played college hockey, often sets things on fire and knows his way around a guitar, often leading our band. Mark is married to Catie, who is also our Sunrise Kids Director and dad to Mason.
Emily Grace Clark
Emily Grace is a Texan and, like most of our staff, is also a musician. Besides music, her passions include helping broken people find wholeness in their lives and find their way back to sobriety and God. Emily Grace is a mom, sister and daughter. Look for her in our front office!
Ben serves the Sunrise community by visiting folks who are sick or in the hospital, leading music for Sunrise Kids and helping run our Food XChange. He's from Texas, but he served on the mission field in Africa and Russia before finishing his career with the Austin Public Library system. Fluent in Russian, Ben is a veteran and proud graduate of UT. His daughter Sara is one of our elders and he plays a mean bluegrass guitar.
Sharla took over the SNYP program in 2016. She is a graduate of North Texas University and really enjoys creating programs for at-risk kids. She is an animal rights advocate and loves live music, traveling, the outdoors, the ocean and family time. Sharla loves long walks on the beach and being a part of the Sunrise team!
SNYP Assistant Director & Worship Leader
Ashley grew up as a kid and teenager at Sunrise and now one of our most-recognizable leaders. She became a worship leader at 18 and now oversees all our worship bands, as well as serving as the SNYP Assistant Director on weekdays. Ashley is mom to Nico and has her mom as her bass player.
Sunrise Kids Director
Catie runs our Sunrise Kids program on the weekends, but has a "real" job at a health management company in one of the skyscrapers downtown. She's married to our Lead Pastor Mark and mom to Mason. Originally from Michigan, she is a graduate of Calvin College and Michigan State University.
Joli is in charge of pushing all of us at Sunrise into mission. She organizes our annual Easter Eggstravaganza, our annual Fall Festival, our annual Altogether Mission Trip and our annual Christmas giving project. In addition, she helps small groups find mission opportunities all around town. Her day job is in marketing for a financial firm and she graduated from Texas State twice! She's married to Dave, who's one of our deacons and mom to Camden & Olivia. Joli is originally from Gatesville, TX.
Roman grew up at Sunrise as a kid and has led worship here since he was 19 years old. His regular employment is as one of the managers at the Salvation Army shelter downtown, but he's led our band to places like Houston, Albuquerque and Toronto. Roman is married to Sarah and his mom, Dorcas, is on our preaching team. Roman is a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan and you may meet with him any time you like at the South Lamar Pluckers.
Nick is our most rambunctious worship leader. With a heart for gospel music, he leads with a distinct flair. He is in his final year as a student at UT and is passionate about music and recovery. When he's not leading worship, you might find Nick walking his dog Sadie or camping in the wilderness.
Shelly is a native Texan and a queen of all trades at Sunrise. She's served as one of our Cafe workers for almost 5 years and took over as Hospitality Director in 2015. She works at a bank during the week and puts her money skills to work as our Treasurer, as well.
Hailing from the great state of Missouri, Michelle makes sure everything around Sunrise is clean as a whistle, which is no small task. Michelle takes care of Shelly, the daughter of her departed best friend and is one of the toughest cookies in South Austin.
Celebrate Recovery Director
Dennis and his wife Maria help run our Tuesday evening Celebrate Recovery community. He is passionate about helping people find sobriety and answers for hurts, habits and hangups in God.
Patty has been around Sunrise a long time and you can often find her helping people walk through difficult times in their lives. Her dayjob is in the healthcare industry and we're glad to have her on our volunteer staff.
